The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States is a nonprofit veterans service organization comprised of eligible veterans and military service members from the active, guard and reserve forces. We welcome veterans from all generations to join our ranks and help carry out our mission. 

Our Mission: To foster camaraderie among United States veterans of overseas conflicts. To serve our veterans, the military and our communities. To advocate on behalf of all veterans. 

Our Vision: Ensure that veterans are respected for their service, always receive their earned entitlements, and are recognized for the sacrifices they and their loved ones have made on behalf of this great country.

'TIS THE BINGO SEASON! 

 November Bingo will bring out the turkeys!  Staff will be dressed in their turkey headdress to give away 5 turkeys!!  Winners will be picked at random during the Bingo session on Friday, November 20th.  So, come win a turkey and cash prizes.  Then, December Bingo will deliver gifts from Santa and his elves!  Staff will be dressed in their finest North Pole attire and special gifts will be given to our Bingo "children".  Come help us enjoy the holiday season.  Have fun with us throughout December!

ACTIVE POST PROJECTS

I.  Buddy Poppy Assembly Update
As of November 13, 2020, our commitment to produce 100,000 Buddy Poppies in 60 days stands at 50,000+!!  We have had excellent support from our local friends and families.  Now, we need Member volunteers to "bring it home!"

II.  Care Package Assembly
Materials have arrived and are ready for VFW Post 5290 to begin assembling "Care Packages" for 200 Veterans and Veteran families this month. This Post project is in conjunction with a District-wide effort to assist Veterans through the holiday season. Come...Help us make a difference this year in a Veteran's life.

 
UPDATE:  Packages were assembled and delivered to members of the Georgia VietNam Veterans Association and to the VFW members.  We are also delivering packages to local law enforcement, EMS, and fire & rescue personnel.

Navy veteran Craig Petrazewsky finally receives awards he earned in Vietnam

On April 28-29 1975, the USS Midway aircraft carrier and other U.S. Navy ships took part in the largest helicopter evacuation in history, carrying U.S. personnel and South Vietnamese refugees to safety as North Vietnamese troops pushed into Saigon. A total of 1,373 Americans and over 5,600 South Vietnamese nationals were successfully airlifted during Operation Frequent Wind, with the Midway receiving 3,073 evacuees.
